A few weeks ago Swindon Town fan 84 year old Steve Dance returned home from an afternoon out to find his home had been broken into. He was very distressed at this but even more so to find the money he had saved for his away season ticket had been stolen – he was devastated.
The story was picked up by the Advertiser and word got around. Swindon fans being Swindon fans when one of their own is down, they rallied around and a ‘go fund me page’ was set up by Oliver Howitt. With donations coming in fast the target of £400 was reached within hours and went on to reach just over £700!
Steve is an RAF veteran and the story was picked up by the RAFA who also presented Steve with a cheque. Steve had made up his mind to donate the money he had over the cost of his travel to the “Bobby Van” Trust who came and repaired his door, renewed locks and made him safe again.
The final piece of the puzzle went into place on Thursday when he went to the travel office and paid for his travel. Steve has been truly touched by everyone’s generosity. He also thanks Oliver Howitt and everyone who donated, SAS Travel, the Swindon Advertiser, RAFA and Swindon Town – who have arranged for Steve to receive a match ticket for all away games.
