PROGRAMME NOTES – EXETER CITY 12th August 2017
Good afternoon and welcome to all Swindon supporters and our visitors from Exeter to the County Ground for our first home game of the season.
Here we are again at the start of another season and expectations are high after David Flitcroft has brought in many new players.
We are also looking to bring in new people. First of all we could do with a few half-time draw ticket sellers, if you can give an hour or so before kick-off. It doesn’t have to be every match but anything you can offer helps enormously. You can contact us by email: firstname.lastname@example.org or ring us on 07500 788467, leave a message and we will call you back.
If you can’t help us by selling tickets perhaps you could do your bit by taking part in our fund raisers. We have Pounds for Points – you can sponsor for as little as 50p or as much as you can afford per point. All the details you need are on the Pounds for Points page of our website or you get in contact as the details above. Remember all monies raised by this go to the Swindon Town Academy to help fund one of their trips to a tournament.
Our main fundraiser is the 50/50 Half-time Draw. Did you know you can take part in this by pre-paying? You can arrange a direct debit at your bank. Just ask us for a form and you need never miss a chance to win. The full details are on the relevant page on our website. Funds raised by the Half-time draw are used to improve facilities for supporters around the stadium or for the club. You can see a list of some of things we have achieved so far on the back of a membership form.
Our last but not least request is for you to join us on the committee. We have two places available and would welcome you to come to any meeting to see what we do. I promise you would not be asked to do anything you are not comfortable with.
Ann Alder, Chairperson
Scunthorpe Saturday 22nd April
Good afternoon and welcome to the County Ground to all Swindon Town Supporters for the last time this season. We also welcome the management, players and supporters who have made the long journey from Scunthorpe for today’s game.
This is our last home game in what I’m sure you will agree has been a season to forget, We still don’t know which division we will be in, but whichever it is, we are still Swindon Town Supporters and we will still be back next season – ”Swindon till I die”, as they say.
We have had a couple of unclaimed 50/50 half-time draw prizes which were put into our charity pot. We have therefore donated £100 to the “Brighter Futures” Radiotherapy appeal at the Great Western Hospital and £100 to the Virgin Money coffee morning in aid of Parkinson’s disease, which was held on Thursday 13th April.
Today, prior to kick-off, we present trophies to our ‘Player of the Season’ which normally would have been presented at our annual dinner but it was felt this would have been too early. There are three trophies – one from Supporters Club members, one from the Disabled Group – presented this year by eight years old Kian and his dad. The Away Supporters are also presenting their trophy.
I hope everyone has a lovely summer break, whatever you may be doing and see you all next season.
Ann Alder, Chairperson
AFC Wimbledon Friday 14th April
Good afternoon and welcome to the County Ground to all Swindon Town Supporters and the management, players and supporters of AFC Wimbledon who have travelled to today’s game. Our Supporters Club is always looking for ideas to raise money to put to good use for the benefit of supporters. Our main source of income is the 50/50 Half-time Draw. Did you know you can take part in the draw on a pre-paid basis – either three-monthly or for the whole season – by direct debit? All you have to do is sign up.
So if you miss a game because you are on holiday or for any other reason, your number will still be in the draw. Why not give it a go by getting in touch with any committee member? This method will make sure you never miss out and we will contact you if your number is drawn out. If you have any fundraising ideas we would be pleased to hear about them. You may even feel you would like to help put on an event. We don’t stop during the summer as we still have meetings to plan ahead for next season so now would be an ideal time to let us know of any event you have in mind. Email us at email@example.com or ring our mobile 07500 788467.
Ann Alder, Chairperson
MK Dons Saturday 8th April
Good afternoon and welcome to the County Ground to all Swindon Town Supporters. We also extend a warm welcome to management, players and supporters from M K Dons who have travelled to the game today. On Tuesday 28th March the Supporters Club held their Annual Dinner. It was a smaller gathering than the past few years which we feel this was due to a number of reasons – our position in the League, being held on a Tuesday evening and well before the end of the season so there were no awards for Player of the Season’. There were 84 of us present plus twelve players and Luke and Ross.
It was good for three groups within Swindon Town F.C to come together for the evening – the Disabled Group, SAS Travel and the Official Supporters Club. Our thanks go BBC Wiltshire’s Shaun Hodgetts who hosted the evening. After an enjoyable dinner we had a question and answer session with Luke and the players and a few jokes from Lawrence to end with! There was also a raffle and our thanks go to Imagine Cruising, Phil King and Swindon Town Commercial Department for their contributions to the prizes. Thanks also go to Rachel Burt and Kay Wainright for their help.
Our ‘Player of the Season’ presentation for all three groups will be made before the last home game of the season against Scunthorpe.
Don’t forget it’s time to renew your membership to the Supporters Club – at just three pounds for a year to support your club it’s a bargain!
Ann Alder, Chairperson
Millwall – Saturday 25th March
Good afternoon and welcome to the County Ground to all Swindon Town Supporters. We also extend a warm welcome to management, players and supporters from Millwall who have travelled to the game today. Today I would like to make a special mention to all of you who still travel to away games at this difficult time. With our position in the league it takes an extra effort to make this commitment. It also makes it harder to organise coaches, so we thank Sally and Marc at SAS Travel for giving up their time to make sure those who still want to go by coach can do so. A big thank you to all concerned!! Now is the time to sign up to join the Supporters Club as our membership year runs from 1st of April to 31st March. It is also time to renew your membership, which costs just £3.00. Amongst the benefits of joining the Club are reduced rate travel with our travel partner SAS Travel, entry into the monthly membership draw and a 5% discount in the club shop. The Supporters Club also contributes to the parent club in terms of various sponsorship opportunities and members’ names are entered into a draw for the matchday VIP hospitality at the County Ground that comes with the package.
Finally, we produce three newsletters through the season keeping you up to date with what is happening within the Supporters Club. There is also an annual dinner which the players and management attend. So, there are many good reasons why you should join. We need you!!
Ann Alder, Chairperson
SHEFFIELD UTD Tuesday 14th March
Good evening and welcome to the County Ground to all Swindon Town Supporters and management, players and supporters who have travelled from Sheffield for tonight’s game. Have you booked your place at our Annual Dinner yet? Bookings are going well. Why not give it a try and come and spend the evening with people who have the same interest and won’t get bored if you want talk about the ‘Town’ all night ! There will also be the opportunity to ask a question or get a ‘selfie’ with a player. On Saturday 4th March the Supporters Club held their AGM and I am very proud to say that I was elected as the new chairperson after Roger Bunce stood down earlier in the season. Everyone else was re-elected en bloc. Claire Elcocks remains as membership secretary and Teresa Dean as secretary, while Steve Dean became the new treasurer last month. Marc Walters and Sally Anne Carter represent SAS Travel, with Mick Castle, Roger Bunce and Mike Dew making up the remainder of the committee. We still have one vacant seat on the committee, so if you feel you would like to join us, come to a meeting and see what we do.
February members draw was won by no.73, John Morse of Wroughton and March was won by no.142, Paul Plowman of Swindon. They each receive £25 in club shop vouchers.
Ann Alder, Chairperson

OLDHAM Saturday 18th February
Today we welcome all Swindon Town Supporters and those who have travelled from Oldham for today’s game. We were contacted this week by Fiona Gardener who is the niece of a long standing ‘Town’ Supporter Arthur Wiseman. She had some sad news that Arthur had passed away on the evening of Thursday 2nd February at the age of 84 years. He had been poorly for some while with a chest infection he could not shake off. Arthur was a keen supporter for over 60 years and followed the Town both home and away. He was known to many and was also a Supporters Club member. His funeral will be held at St Thomas a’Becket church, Box at 2.30pm on Wednesday 22nd February. Anyone who wishes to attend will be welcome. R.I.P. Arthur.
On behalf of the Supporters Club I would like thank The Great Western Reds for their great display last week, it is something to be proud of and we are pleased along with TRUST STFC to have sponsored their initiative.
We now have a date for our end of season dinner, which will be on Tuesday 28th March. This is a little earlier than usual but it was the only date the Club was able to offer us due to other commitments. The price will be £22.00. There is a set menu of soup, chicken, and a sweet, with cheese and biscuits available at an extra £2.00.
Don’t forget the Supporters Club AGM on 4th March at 11am in Legends Lounge. All are welcome but only members can vote. Last but not least, can I remind you of the 3rd Annual Programme and Memorabilia Fair in the Legends at the County Ground TOMORROW Sunday 19th February 10.30 – 1pm
Ann Alder, Vice Chairperson
OXFORD – Sunday 5th February
This afternoon we welcome all Swindon Town supporters to the County Ground for today’s game against Oxford United. Our big local derby, this is a fixture that over the years is always looked forward to with enormous expectations. Let’s hope that today we are not disappointed. The Supporters Club welcomes Nicky Ajose back to the County Ground – and in a busy last week we have also seen the arrival of three others. So, we also welcome Dion Conroy from Chelsea and Rohan Ince and Jesse Starkey from Brighton.
A date for your diary is the annual Wiltshire Programme and Memorabilia Fair, which will be held in the Legends Lounge here at the County Ground two weeks today, on Sunday 19th February. Doors open at 10.30am and close at 1.30pm. If you have any programmes you wish to dispose of please contact the Supporters Club. Another date to remember is the Supporters Club AGM on Saturday 4th March at 11am, also in the Legends Lounge. Everyone welcome but only members can vote. We have a place on the committee available, if you would like to join please make your application in writing by email to: email@example.com or post to the Secretary, Swindon Town Supporters Club, The County Ground, Swindon SN1 2ED

PETERBOROUGH – 21st January
Good afternoon and welcome to the County Ground to all Swindon Town supporters and those who have travelled from Peterborough for todays’ match.
Today the Supporters Club are pleased to be sponsoring the Matchday Programme. This has given ten members the opportunity to experience the super VIP day out enjoying the matchday hospitality. If you would like the opportunity in the future, join the Supporters Club!
At our last committee meeting we have now agreed a date for the AGM. It will be on Saturday 4th March at 11am in Legends Lounge. Everyone is welcome to attend but only members can vote.
I am pleased to say Steve Dean has asked to come back on the committee and we have accepted his request. Steve resigned a while ago due to work commitments. He has still continued to help us selling half-time draw tickets and kept up with what is going on. Mike Dew is giving up the Treasurers role and Steve has agreed to take it on.
We still have places on the committee and would welcome applications from anyone who is interested. Please send your application by email to firstname.lastname@example.org or post to the Secretary, Swindon Town Supporters Club, The County Ground, Swindon SN1 2ED
As I have said many times before, we do need more 50/50 halftime draw sellers. This may be of interest to those of you are not able to have a Season Ticket. We are offering a complimentary match ticket to anyone selling a minimum number of tickets. Anyone who is interested please get in touch with any committee member or email the above address.
Ann Alder, Vice Chair
SHREWSBURY 7th January
Good afternoon and welcome to the County Ground to all Swindon Town Supporters and those who have travelled from Shrewsbury for today’s game
It was really nice to get a response to our New Year wishes on Facebook which were sent around the world. The response came from as far apart as Brisbane Australia and snowy Bulgaria. I know we also have members in Malta and Denmark.
It may be a new year but I need to remind you of an old request. We are looking for at least two more committee members. We meet once a month, usually on a Saturday before a home game. You don’t need to have any experience, just be willing to help with various aspects of our club. If you are interested speak to one of our committee and arrange to come along to a meeting to see if you would like to join us.
Another old request I am going to repeat is for 50/50 half-time draw sellers. We would really like to be giving away a bigger prize pot but we can only do this by selling more tickets. You don’t have to commit to selling every game just when you can for about an hour and a half before kick-off. We would like to get our prize nearer £1,000, it would be fantastic.
Don’t forget there is still almost half the season to go, so you can still join in with Pounds for Points. Every penny raised goes to support the Youth Academy. If you would like to take part please contact any committee member.
SOUTHEND – 7th January 2017
Good afternoon and welcome to the County Ground this afternoon to all Swindon Town supporters and those who are visiting us from Southend. We hope you had a lovely Christmas and enjoyed your New Year with not too many headaches! A HAPPY NEW YEAR to EVERYONE!
The year 2016 saw a number of changes in the Supporters Club. We lost two Committee members due to other commitments. We also saw our Chairman Roger Bunce stand down for health reasons and sadly one of our popular half-time draw sellers Mike Reeves passed away having had cancer. On a personal note I have struggled with my mobility and wound up having a total knee replacement. So I have been missing at the County Ground for the first half of this season but I am really looking forward to the second half.
One event to look forward to in 2017 will be the AGM – on a date to be announced very soon after our next committee meeting on Saturday 7 January. We will be welcoming applications to join our committee, so if you are interested, please send yours in writing either by email to email@example.com or addressed to : The Secretary, Swindon Town Supporters Club, The County Ground, Swindon SN1 2ED.
On Sunday 19 February 2017 the Annual Programme Fair will be held in the Legends Lounge. This has become a very popular event for programme and memorabilia collectors so please put this date in your diary.

FLEETWOOD – Saturday 17TH December 2016
Good afternoon and welcome to the County Ground to all Swindon Town Supporters and those who have travelled from Fleetwood for todays’ game.
A lot seems to have been going on since my last programme notes. The Supporters Club sponsored the Charlton match. It gave the opportunity for ten of our members to experience the hospitality day out and it seems a good day was had by all, helped by winning the game!
Then the Academy Under 18’s met AFC Sudbury in the FA Youth Cup and came out 3 – 2 winners in extra time and booked QPR in the next round.
Unfortunately we had to cancel the AGM due to sickness and unforeseen circumstances. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused. We will be rearranging a date for the AGM in the New Year.

ROCHDALE – 18th October 2016
The Vale & West Oxon supporters club held another dinner at The Fox at Denchworth last week. The event organised by Mavis Knight was a great success. Players Conor Thomas and Luke Norris and Youth Team Coach Alan McLoughlin attended.
This is a great way to take Swindon Town out into the community. There are many areas such as Devizes, Marlborough, Chippenham, Stroud, Cirencester and others where there are Swindon Supporters who would like to meet up and have a social evening. It doesn’t have to be a meal. If you would like to start a group in your area and would like some help please contact us.
Jay Collet from Great Western Reds group recently attended one of our committee meetings. Jay and his group aim to get behind the team and do a great job in trying to create a memorable match day atmosphere both home and away. The Supporters club has made a donation to help with the cost of display material.
The winner of the October members draw is memberNo.285 – which is Mr George Vockins. The prize this month is a £25.00 club shop voucher.
Rachel Burt has resigned from the Committee, with immediate effect due to work and personal commitments. Rachel has been a great asset with arranging functions and would still like to be involved and help when she can. We wish her well and thank her for her time given to the Supporters Club committee.
We apologise for not doing the 50/50 half-time draw against Northampton which was due to not having any sellers available. We are constantly trying to recruit sellers, so if you are able to help out occasionally or regularly please contact one of the committee or email: firstname.lastname@example.org or ring our mobile 07500788467
The winners of the 50/50 draw for Bolton were 1st ticket number 393 (£463 won by K Edwards from Devizes) and 2nd ticket number 980 (£50 won by D. Carrington from Tetbury)
Ann Alder, Vice chairperson
BOLTON – 8th October 2016
Today we welcome Management, players and supporters of our visitors from Bolton.
SAS Travel is a valuable part of the Supporters Club and put any profit made from travel back into the Supporters Club, also directly to Swindon Town Football Club by sponsoring two players’ shirts every season. They have also contributed to the Fitness Watches for players’ and to various gallery pictures in Legends bar.
Having been involved running away travel for many years, I understand what a difficult job this can be. The number of hours which are put into organising coaches behind the scenes for supporters to travel to an away match can only be done by dedication to the job.
It starts during the summer months – when others have forgotten about football – by getting quotes from coach operators and selecting which to accept. Cost, reliability and safety also need to be considered. For a number of years now Barnes Coaches have been the chosen partner.
Prices for travellers are then worked out and those who travel to every game have the option of purchasing a season ticket..
Usually bookings are taken on a Tuesday and Thursday evening and before all home games. Messages can be left on the answerphone (01793536757) and Twitter is another point of contact. All details appear towards the back of this programme and on their website at www.sastravel.co.uk
I hope this gives an insight as to what is required to run a reliable and safe travel organisation such as SAS Travel which is run by Marc Walters and Sally Carter. They both have busy lives with families and full-time jobs.
We thank them very much for their continued support – and do remember that SAS Travel offers discounted travel to Supporters Club members.
Ann Alder, Vice chairperson
